4. Local app data we do not collect

GetCompress may store settings, presets, recent workflow information, extension configuration, folder-monitoring rules, automation settings, and local app state on your device.

Unless you send this information to us through support, diagnostics, or another deliberate action, this local data is not collected by Night Story.

5. Media files and local-only processing

GetCompress is designed so ordinary media processing happens locally on your computer. We do not receive your media files, file contents, previews, thumbnails, or generated outputs as part of normal app use.

This local-only statement does not apply where you choose to:

  • send files to us for support;
  • use a third-party service, AI assistant, extension, or automation that uploads files;
  • configure custom scripts or tools that transmit data;
  • publish, export, or share files yourself; or
  • use features outside the default local processing workflow.

You are responsible for understanding and configuring any third-party tools, extensions, automations, or AI assistants you connect to GetCompress.

6. Licence activation and device labels

When you activate GetCompress, the app automatically sends the operating-system-provided computer display name to Polar.sh as the licence activation label, for example Petr’s MacBook Pro.

This display name may contain personal data if you or your operating system configured it to include a personal name, company name, location, asset tag, or other identifying information.

We use the activation label and related licence activation records to help you recognise where your licence is activated, enforce active-device or activation limits, validate licences, provide support, prevent fraud, and prevent licence abuse. The activation label is not media content, file content, or diagnostic content, and we do not use it for advertising.

If you do not want a personal name or other identifying text to be sent as the activation label, you should change your computer display name before activating GetCompress where your operating system allows this.

The activation label is kept while the activation exists and is removed or no longer associated with the active licence instance after deactivation where supported by Polar. Polar may retain limited logs, backups, transaction records, security records, tax records, legal records, or similar records under its own terms and privacy notice.

7. App diagnostics, crash reports, and PostHog

We use PostHog for privacy-preserving app diagnostics, crash reports, and product usage insights.

Diagnostics help us understand whether GetCompress is reliable, fast, and intuitive. For example, we may learn that a crash happened on a certain operating system version, or that a workflow is slow, without receiving your media files.

App diagnostics may include a random installation identifier, hashed email address, and hashed licence key or licence identifier. These identifiers are pseudonymous, not fully anonymous: they may let us recognise the same user, installation, or licence across sessions, and may let us connect diagnostics with support or licensing records if you contact us.

App diagnostics are designed with these safeguards:

  • no media files are sent;
  • no file contents, previews, or thumbnails are sent;
  • no filenames or full file paths are sent;
  • only file extension information may be sent;
  • clipboard contents are not intentionally sent;
  • your system login name is not intentionally sent;
  • raw email addresses and raw licence keys are not sent to PostHog app telemetry;
  • system information is limited to general technical details such as operating system type, operating system version, CPU architecture, memory or device class, and app version;
  • raw client IP addresses are not intentionally stored in app telemetry events or made available to Night Story in PostHog;
  • PostHog may derive approximate location from connection data before storing the event;
  • data is minimised to what helps us improve reliability, performance, and user experience; and
  • you can disable diagnostics in GetCompress → Settings → General → Analytics.

If we discover that a diagnostic event accidentally included personal data that we did not intend to collect, we will delete, anonymise, or otherwise minimise it where reasonably possible.

Disabling diagnostics does not necessarily disable essential requests such as purchase processing, licence verification, update downloads, dependency downloads, software-delivery requests, or support communications, where those features are used.

8. Website analytics and cookies

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand basic website usage and performance.

We do not currently use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or behavioural advertising pixels on the GetCompress website. Cloudflare Web Analytics is designed to provide analytics without setting cookies or using localStorage for visitor tracking.

Because we do not set non-essential analytics cookies or similar client-side identifiers for Cloudflare Web Analytics, we do not currently display a cookie banner for that analytics use. If we add non-essential cookies, advertising pixels, or similar tracking technologies, we will update this notice and request consent where required.

Strictly necessary technologies may still be used to provide the website, secure it, process purchases, prevent fraud, remember privacy choices, or operate services you request.
